Rather predictable result when third rankedGigantes (12-9) won against 5th ranked Leones (8-14) in Carolina 85-80 on Sunday. Ponce was trailing by 6 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 19-13 charge of Carolina, which allowed them to win the game. Strangely Leones outrebounded Gigantes 44-32 including 30 on the defensive glass. Forward Dyondre Dominguez (203-2000, college: Arkansas St.) nailed a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winning side and the former international point guard Tremont Waters (180-1998, college: LSU, agency: Shark Sports Management) accounted for 24 points and 6 assists. Gigantes' coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American forward Darius Bazley (206-2000) came up with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import power forward Brady Manek (206-1998, college: UNC) added 17 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for Leones in the defeat. Four Leones players scored in double figures. Carolina maintains third place with 12-9 record having 3 victories less than leader San German. Loser Leones keeps the fifth position with 14 games lost.
